Senior Data Analyst

Position Summary:
 This position reports to the NAML Product Manager and helps drives our Marketing activities both short and long term in North America and is integral in providing input to the NA Regional Commercial Team and Global SMPT on future direction. As part of NAML Product Management the Senior Data Analyst supports the development of regional strategic marketing & business plans and supporting development of the global marketing strategy by forecasting regional S&D balances, maintaining high quality competitor and derivative plans, and supporting other marketing related initiatives.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Monitoring performance against strategic marketing objectives and communicating opposite.
  • Market Intelligence, Reporting & SMPT: Providing high quality support to the SMPT by managing regional market intelligence activities to develop a comprehensive market understanding.
  • Sales & Marketing: Supporting the integration of sales, marketing & logistics functions and driving strategic objectives / tactics through the organization.
  • Leadership: Actively support team members to achieve both regional and global M&L goals.
  • Lead preparation of monthly MIS, NA Market summary and NA Supply & Demand reports (import/export tracking, production, swaps, etc)
  •  Update mix matrix to refine understanding of regional competitors’ strategies and implications for Methanex portfolio
  •  Maintain high quality key competitor & derivative plans as agreed with SMPT
  •  Analyze and recommend adjustments as needed to North America supply and demand forecasts, including outages and new methanol and downstream projects.
  •  Support global update to supply and demand balances through competitive intelligence gathering on key competitors and behavior of producers/consumers
  • Provide strategic and analytical support for business development activities in North America.
  •  Support preparation of NAML Revenue and Logistics Budget by providing relevant input, including market pricing, discounts and demand
  •  Support other regional/SMPT initiatives as required (e.g. Atlantic basin balance tracking, global swap opportunities, etc)
  •  Prepare monthly North America Market summary and propose corresponding MNDRP and WCDP recommendations to Vice President, Marketing & Logistics
  • Support monthly pricing process through preparation of price talking points (in coordination with Global SMPT) and review of MIS report with sales team
  • Support development of Key Account Plans through detailed understanding of downstream demand, NA competitive environment, including suppliers and potential projects and understanding of economic value (netback) to NA portfolio
  • Collaborate with sales team to execute regional marketing strategy by maintaining up to date contract log, project updates and mix matrix and making recommendations on offer terms, sequencing, target accounts(buying and non-buying), contract length, etc.)
  • Discuss w/CS&L and GSC to optimize netback to NA assets through sourcing and portfolio optimization, including detailed understanding of marginal locations in current sales and viable alternatives
  • Provide commercial support as required for business operations and value creation, including idea generation, analysis and implementation
  • Support development of team members, through education of Methanex market position, regional and global methanol market fundamentals
Qualifications:
  •  Ability to draw conclusions and make recommendations based on limited information
  •  Working well under pressure to meet deadlines
  •   Capacity to handle detailed short-term tasks with the ability to think strategically longer term
  •  Working well in culturally diverse team
  •   Ability to influence without having direct supervisory responsibility
  •  Undergraduate degree in marketing, business, finance, or strategy; MBA desired
  •  Minimum five (5) years actual work experience in industrial marketing
  •   Commercial experience: Two years in sales preferred
  •   Solid understanding of product, processes, customers, competition
  •   Compelling communication skills; oral and written
  •   Analytical mind and problem solving skills
  •   Computer modeling capability
  •   Strong PC skills (MS applications: Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  •   Proven financial knowledge
  •   Sound influencing skills
  •   Team oriented – must be able to get things done through and with others without direct reporting relationships
