Reports To: Project Manager / Operations Manager
Position Summary
The Team Lead Technician is responsible for leading field installation crews, ensuring high-quality workmanship, maintaining jobsite efficiency, and serving as the primary on-site technical leader for low-voltage projects. This role combines hands-on installation with leadership responsibilities, safety oversight, customer coordination, and job documentation. The Team Lead Technician plays a critical role in delivering projects on time, within scope, and in accordance with company standards and industry best practices.
Key Responsibilities
Field Leadership & Crew Management
- Lead daily jobsite operations and direct assigned technicians and apprentices
- Assign tasks and manage workflow to maximize productivity and efficiency
- Train and mentor junior technicians on installation standards, safety practices, and
- company procedures
- Enforce company policies, safety protocols, and workmanship standards
- Conduct daily job briefings and jobsite coordination
Installation & Technical Execution
- Perform and oversee installation of low-voltage systems including:
- Structured cabling (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A, fiber)
- Security cameras, access control, intrusion systems
- Network racks, MDF/IDF buildouts
- Conduit, pathway systems, and cable management
- Ensure installations meet manufacturer specifications, code requirements, and company
- quality standards
- Perform system testing, labeling, certification, and documentation
- Troubleshoot technical issues and coordinate with Solutions Engineers when needed
Project Coordination
- Work closely with Project Managers and Solutions Engineers to execute project plans
- Review project drawings, scopes of work, and installation requirements
- Track material usage and report shortages or issues
- Provide daily job progress updates and completion reports
- Coordinate with general contractors, site supervisors, and customer representatives
Quality Control & Documentation
- Verify installation accuracy and system functionality before project closeout
- Maintain clean and organized job sites
- Complete as-built documentation, testing results, and punch lists
- Ensure proper labeling and cable management standards are met
Safety & Compliance
- Maintain OSHA and company safety standards at all job sites
- Conduct job hazard assessments and enforce PPE usage
- Ensure safe operation of company vehicles, lifts, ladders, and tools
- Promote a culture of safety and accountability
Required Qualifications
- 3–5+ years of experience in the low-voltage industry
- Prior experience leading crews or acting as a senior technician preferred
- Strong knowledge of structured cabling, security systems, and low-voltage infrastructure
- Ability to read blueprints, drawings, and scope documents
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work on ladders and lifts
- Must be able to pass a background check and drug test
Preferred Certifications (Not Required but Strongly Valued)
- BICSI Technician or Installer certification
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
- Manufacturer certifications (Verkada, Axis, Hanwha, Genetec, etc.)
- Fiber termination and testing certifications
Work Environment
- Field-based role working on commercial and industrial job sites
- Indoor and outdoor work environments
- Travel to job sites as required
- Occasional overtime based on project schedules
