Reports To: Team Lead Technician / Project Manager
Summary
The Field Technician is responsible for supporting the installation, testing, and servicing of low-voltage systems under the direction of a Team Lead Technician. This role focuses on executing installation tasks with precision, maintaining jobsite productivity, and upholding company quality and safety standards. The Field Technician plays a key role in project execution by performing hands-on technical work, maintaining organized job sites, and contributing to efficient project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Installation & Technical Support
- Install and support low-voltage systems including:
- Structured cabling (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A, fiber optic)
- Security systems (IP cameras, access control, intrusion detection)
- MDF/IDF buildouts and network rack installations
- Conduit, pathways, and cable management systems
- Pull, terminate, label, and test copper and fiber cabling
- Assist with device mounting, rack assembly, and system hardware installation
- Follow installation plans, drawings, and instructions provided by the Team Lead
- Maintain installation quality according to manufacturer specifications and company standards
Jobsite Support & Execution
- Follow direction from the Team Lead Technician to complete assigned daily tasks
- Maintain productivity and adhere to project timelines
- Keep job sites clean, organized, and professional
- Assist with material handling, staging, and inventory tracking
- Support punch list completion and project closeout tasks
Testing & Documentation
- Assist with cable testing and certification
- Label cables, racks, and devices accurately
- Support as-built documentation and reporting
- Report installation issues or discrepancies to the Team Lead promptly
Safety & Compliance
- Follow OSHA and company safety policies at all times
- Use proper PPE and maintain safe work practices
- Safely operate ladders, lifts, power tools, and company equipment
- Participate in job hazard assessments and safety meetings
Required Qualifications
- 1–3+ years of experience in the low-voltage industry preferred (entry-level candidates with relevant construction or technical experience considered)
- Basic knowledge of structured cabling and security system installations
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment
- Ability to read basic drawings and follow technical instructions
- Strong work ethic and willingness to learn
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work on ladders and lifts
- Ability to pass background check and drug screening
Preferred Certifications (Not Required)
- OSHA 10
- BICSI Installer (Level 1)
- Manufacturer training certifications
- Fiber termination training
Work Environment
- Field-based role on commercial and industrial job sites
- Indoor and outdoor environments
- Travel to job sites as required
- Occasional overtime based on project schedules
